Bindery & Mailing Machine Operator

The Bindery & Mailing Machine Operator is responsible for providing finishing services for digital press projects in compliance with job specifications and company quality standards. Additionally, The Bindery & Mailing Machine Operator is responsible for setting up and operating all mailing equipment for producing mailing projects in compliance with job specifications, current postal regulations, and in accordance with company quality standards and procedures. The Bindery & Mailing Machine Operator coordinates workload schedules to meet customer timeframe requirements. The Bindery & Mailing Machine Operator also performs daily/weekly/monthly maintenance on all equipment to ensure optimum output and works closely with other team members to exceed customer satisfaction and service expectations.

  • High school diploma/GED with experience or vocational/technical certification.
  • 3 -5 years of experience setting up and operating bindery/finishing/mailing equipment.
  • Read and speak fluent English.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Good mathematical skills.
  • Able to apply written instructions to machine set-up and maintenance.
  • Reliable attendance, punctuality, and attention to work stations.

  • Perform all bindery functions as noted on work order/job tickets. This may include: folding, cutting, padding, numbering, GBC punching, spiral or coil binding, fastback, collating, scoring, perforating, drilling, stitching or stapling, laminating and wrapping.
  • Operate mailing equipment according to specifications to produce customized jobs.
  • Perform all mailing functions, as noted on the work order.
  • Process handwork assembly according to specifications.
  • Package jobs, complete work orders, tickets, and delivery receipts as necessary and place them in their assigned areas.
  • Check materials to be sure the right materials are to be cut, folded, inserted, or labeled.
  • Coordinate with the Production Team to produce and prioritize jobs and, when necessary, reorganize to meet deadline changes and updates.
  • Comply with all OSHA safety requirements.
  • Participate as a critical player in the Production Team by supporting operations as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with the general manager, the supervisor, the account team, and the production team, informing and updating them regularly to guarantee that sales objectives and customer objectives are met.
  • Follow the systems and procedures outlined in the company manuals.
  • Stage materials for efficient, orderly processing.
  • Ensure high-quality standards and neatness for all work performed and report any shortage of materials to the supervisor.
  • Sort, tie, and bag according to current postal standards.
  • Process paperwork according to policy and procedures and external requirements.
  • Maintain appropriate production documentation.
  • Clean and maintain equipment and work area following maintenance procedures and update maintenance logs.
  • Monitor and manage inventory of bindery & mailing supplies; order and stock as instructed by the supervisor.
  • Inform supervisor of equipment problems.
